(: 01183 = days since my first newman motor :) 1) I'm having some problems with the brush contacts. Carbon brushes must be under pressure for low resistance contact, and I'm having problems with there not being enough pressure on the wheel. I have also had problems with there being too much vibration on the springs, which can cause them to snag on the commutator. So I am only using carbon brushes on the shaft now. I bought plastic springs and some metal plates which I will use to create contacts for the wheel. Metal-to-metal contact is theoretically helpful for generating the Newman effect by causing a sharper spike. 2) To avoid shipping charges again, I must get some of older legos (from when I was a kid) for extra 2x2 blocks to clean my commutator up, because some of the new ones I got are stuck too hard because of the glue I used. 3) I did have the machine running with the small fan before January was over, but the alignment was bad, the coils were too far apart, and the contacts were moving too much. Despite that, the motor would run with no load 200 rpm and 90 rpm with the small fan load on only 50 volts of rechargeable batteries which I have not recharged since 6 months ago. According to the digital meter, the currents were around 0.03 amps. The analog meter gave about the same reading as well. This is without corrections, so stay tuned!
